Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the App. These Terms apply in addition to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Apple EULA"), which governs your use of the App as licensed through the App Store. Where these Terms and the Apple EULA conflict, these Terms govern to the extent permitted by the Apple EULA.

2. Intended Purpose and Scope of Use

The App is a productivity and reference tool for laboratory research, providing:

• Laboratory calculators (dilutions, concentrations, cell counting, molarity, transfection, virus titer, and others).
• Cell culture tracking with confluency estimation, growth prediction, and per-culture medium-change schedules.
• Experiment tracker with checklists, notes, photos, and linked items. Save any experiment as a reusable template; export any experiment as an A4 PDF report.
• Plate layout planner for 6 to 96-well plates with up to four colour-coded conditions, per-well notes, PNG/PDF export, and up to 50 steps of undo/redo.
• Protocol library with step-by-step timers and built-in templates.
• Digital lab notebook with procedures, quick notes, voice-to-text dictation (on-device), and measurement tables. Notebook exports to CSV.
• Inventory management for cell lines, reagents (including multiple per-reagent lots), virus stocks, frozen vials, and equipment. Freezer inventory includes a box-map grid view.
• Lab reference data (molecular weights, buffer recipes, fluorophore spectra, GHS safety symbols).
• Apple Watch companion app for timer control and a Today's Tasks tab with tap-to-complete sync, plus a "Lab Timer" watch-face complication.
• Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, Live Activities with action buttons, and (on iOS 18) a Control Center "Lab Timer" button.
• Today dashboard with tasks, calendar, lab alerts, and experiment-step due dates.
• CSV export and import for data portability.

3. Research Use Only

The App is intended for research use only. It is not a medical device under EU Regulation 2017/745 (MDR), EU Regulation 2017/746 (IVDR), the US FDA device framework, or any comparable regulation. The App is not certified, validated, or approved for clinical use.

You must not use the App:

• To diagnose, prevent, monitor, predict, prognose, treat, or alleviate any disease or medical condition in any individual patient.
• To make decisions that directly affect patient care, clinical treatment, or in vitro diagnosis.
• In any environment where an incorrect calculation, reference value, or protocol step could cause harm to humans or animals.

If you are unsure whether your intended use falls within research use, do not use the App for that purpose.

4. Disclaimer of Accuracy; Independent Verification Required

The calculators, formulas, protocol templates, reference data, and other information provided by the App are aids for trained professionals. Formulas are based on standard published references; however, no warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose is given. Users must independently verify every calculation output, reference value, protocol step, and any other output of the App before applying it in experimental work or any laboratory decision.

The App is not a substitute for professional training, scientific judgment, peer review, or institutional standard operating procedures.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable mandatory law, the developer's liability arising from or in connection with your use of the App is limited as follows:

• The developer is liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally (Vorsatz) or through gross negligence (grobe Fahrlässigkeit), for damage to life, body, or health, and for mandatory liability under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz).
• For slight negligence (leichte Fahrlässigkeit), the developer's liability is limited to damages that were foreseeable at the time of contract conclusion and that are typical for this type of contract. Liability for indirect damages, consequential damages, and lost profits is excluded to the extent legally permitted.
• Outside the foregoing cases, any other liability is excluded to the extent permitted by law.

The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind except as required by mandatory consumer protection law. In particular, and without limitation, the developer shall not be liable for:

• Incorrect calculation or conversion outputs caused by incorrect inputs, misuse, or failure to independently verify results.
• Inaccurate voice transcriptions.
• Data loss or corruption on the user's device, including but not limited to events caused by iOS updates, device failure, App uninstallation, or user-initiated deletion.
• Failed experiments, unexpected experimental outcomes, contamination events, or any other laboratory consequence.

Use of the App is at your own risk. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under mandatory applicable law, including mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence.

6. User Responsibilities

As a user of the App, you agree to:

• Independently verify all calculations, reference data, and protocol steps before applying them to laboratory work.
• Follow your institutional safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and guidelines at all times, regardless of any information provided by the App.
• Use the App only as a supplementary tool in a research context, alongside established laboratory practices.
• Not use the App for clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic, or patient-care purposes.
• Maintain your own backups of important data (for example via Settings > Data & Backup > Export Backup).
• Take full responsibility for any actions taken on the basis of information from the App.

7. Data and Privacy

All data you enter in the App is stored locally on your device. If iCloud Backup is enabled in your iOS Settings, your App data is included in your standard iPhone iCloud device backup. There is no active cross-device sync performed by the App. The developer has no access to your data. The App does not collect, transmit, or share any data with any third party. You are solely responsible for maintaining backups of your own data. The developer is not responsible for data loss due to device failure, App deletion, iOS updates, iCloud events, or any other cause. For full details, see the Privacy Policy.

8. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, code, and original content, is protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights. All rights are reserved by the copyright holder.

Cell line information referenced in the App is sourced from publicly available databases, including ATCC. Reagent information is compiled from publicly available manufacturer data. GHS hazard pictograms are based on OSHA/UN GHS standards. All trademarks, product names, and database names belong to their respective owners and are used for reference only.

9. Third-Party Components

The App runs on Apple's iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS platforms and uses Apple system frameworks (including SwiftUI, SwiftData, WidgetKit, ActivityKit, AppIntents, CoreSpotlight, SFSpeechRecognizer, WatchConnectivity, PDFKit, and UserNotifications). The App does not include third-party software libraries, advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or tracking frameworks.

10. Voice Transcription

Voice note transcription uses Apple's on-device SFSpeechRecognizer with on-device recognition enforced. No audio leaves the device. Transcription accuracy varies with background noise, accent, and scientific terminology. You must review transcribed text before saving, particularly for critical values such as concentrations, passage numbers, reagent names, and other quantitative entries.

11. Protocols and Reference Data

Protocol templates and reference content provided in the App are compiled from standard published methods and publicly available manufacturer documentation. They are provided as starting points and must be adapted to your specific reagents, cell lines, equipment, and institutional standard operating procedures. Always validate protocols in your own laboratory before relying on them for experiments that matter.

12. Changes to Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date at the top. Continued use of the App following an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage users to review these Terms periodically.

13. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, and excluding the conflict-of-laws rules to the extent they would lead to the application of a different legal system. If you are a consumer and habitually reside in an EU member state or another jurisdiction whose consumer protection laws apply to you, mandatory provisions of the consumer protection law of your country of residence also apply and take precedence over any conflicting provision of these Terms.

Where permitted, the courts of the Federal Republic of Germany have jurisdiction for disputes arising from these Terms. Mandatory consumer venue rules remain unaffected.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid under applicable law, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or removed if it cannot be made enforceable, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
